Without an account

Can I use MyNout without signing up?

Yes. Open the editor and start writing. You can keep up to 10 notes without an account, including anything in the trash. There is no e-mail, no password and nothing to install.

How do I get back to my notes?

In the same browser you are usually brought back automatically. Because that depends on data your browser can clear at any time, each note also has a private link you can save — and you can attach everything to a free account whenever you like.

How long are notes without an account kept?

180 days from the last time you opened or edited the note. Opening it resets the clock. Someone reading it through a share link does not. Anything you move to the trash is deleted for good after 7 days.

Can I add pictures or files without an account?

No. Without an account you can write text, format it, make checklists and add ordinary links. Pictures, file attachments and embeds need a free account — that is what keeps writing without one free for everyone.

What is the difference between the private link and a share link?

The private link is your way back to one note: it can edit it, delete it and attach it to an account, so keep it to yourself. A share link gives other people read or edit access to that one note and nothing else. Neither is a password, and anyone a link is forwarded to gets in.

What happens to my notes when I create an account?

Nothing, until you say so. After you sign in we offer to attach the notes you wrote — the same notes, with their history and their trash, not copies. The 180-day rule stops applying to them, and any sharing links are revoked unless you choose to keep them.

Getting started

Is it really free?

Yes — create an account and use all the core note-taking features for free. No credit card and no trial limit.

Why is it free, and will it stay that way?

The core note-taking features are free and are meant to stay that way; the running costs are small and there is no investor expecting a return. If a paid tier ever appears, it will be for things that genuinely cost more to run, not for taking away what you already use.

Do I need to install anything?

No. There is nothing to download or install — open the app in your browser, sign up and start writing.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. The app runs in any modern browser on your phone, tablet and computer, and your notes stay in sync across all of them.

Is there a mobile app?

There is no separate app to install. The site is built for phones as well as desktops, and you can add it to your home screen so it opens like an app, with the same notes and the same account.

Writing and organising

Is there a limit on how many notes I can create?

No — with an account, notes, folders and tags are unlimited. Only uploaded images have a fair-use quota (500 files or 250 MB per account, 100 uploads a day) so the free plan stays free for everyone.

Can I add images and files?

Yes. Insert images into any note (up to 5 MB each) and resize them in place — except end-to-end encrypted notes, which hold text only. Other file types are not stored, but you can link to them.

Can I import notes from another app?

Import any Markdown (.md) file straight into a note, so notes from most other apps come across with their formatting. Export works the other way round.

Does it work offline?

MyNout runs in the browser and needs a connection to save. Your notes are available on any device the moment you are back online.

Which languages is the app available in?

The interface is available in 38 languages. Pick yours from the language menu, or open this site at its language address, for example mynout.com/cs.

Sharing and collaboration

Can I share notes with other people?

Yes. Share any note with a private read-only link, or invite people by e-mail to view or edit it together.

Can other people edit my notes?

Only if you let them. Share a note with a private read-only link, or invite specific people by e-mail and choose whether each can view or edit. You stay in control and can revoke access anytime.

Do I need an account to read a note somebody shared with me?

No. A read-only link opens for anyone, with no account and no sign-in. You can even write up to 10 notes without an account; an account adds unlimited notes, pictures and folders, and lets other people invite you to edit their notes.

Can I use MyNout with my team?

Yes, for small-team work: invite people to a note or a whole folder by e-mail and give each of them view or edit access. There are no seats to buy and no admin console — it is designed for a handful of people working together, not for a company-wide rollout.

Privacy and security

Are my notes private?

Your notes belong to you. They are protected by your account with optional two-factor authentication, and we never sell your data. If you want more, turn on end-to-end encryption: the notes you encrypt can be read only with your passphrase — not even by us.

Can I encrypt my notes so that only I can read them?

Yes, with end-to-end encryption. Turn it on in Settings → Security → End-to-end encryption and choose a passphrase: the notes you encrypt are encrypted in your browser, and not even MyNout can read them. Keep the recovery code you are given — if you lose it together with the passphrase, nobody can recover those notes.

How do I keep one note private on a shared computer?

Protect that note with a PIN. Its body stays hidden until the PIN is entered, and it stays hidden in shared links and in the version history too, so nothing on the screen gives it away.

Your data and your account

Can I export my notes?

Anytime. Copy a note as Markdown, download it as Markdown, plain text or PDF, or download all of your notes, folders and tags in a single file.

Can I get my notes out — or delete everything?

Always. Copy or export any note as Markdown, plain text or PDF, or export all of your notes, folders and tags at once. Your data is yours — you can take it with you or remove it whenever you like.

How do I delete my account?

Open Settings → Your data → Delete account. You confirm the deletion — with your password, if the account has one — and everything (notes, folders, tags and images) is removed at once.

What happens to my notes if I stop using MyNout?

Nothing changes until you act: your account stays as it is. Export everything as Markdown, PDF or a single file whenever you like, and delete the account when you are ready — deletion removes the notes, folders, tags and images with it.

Still have a question? Anything not answered here, write to us and a person will reply. When you are signed in, you can also use “Report a problem” next to Settings and attach a screenshot. Creating an account is free, so trying it is often the fastest answer of all. info [at] mynout [dot] com
